The Old Monastery lies secluded behind walls, in the centre of Lapta. Entering through the gate the visitor is transferred into another world: Grouped around a marvellous swimming pool, you find to the East of the pool walls: 'Old House I' and 'Old House II', both detached and flanking the Old Monastery garden; to the West: 'House Olivia' and 'The Tower 'with the apartments, also detached and flanking the new garden. There are two dozens of 100 year old cypresses, palms and olives, fruit-trees and flowering shrubs. Within walking distance are mini-markets, butcher, restaurants, chemist and post-office. The nearest sandy beaches with deck beds, parasols, water sport facilities, beach-bars and restaurants are just two, six and eight km away. Car rentals, taxi-stand and petrol-station are in the village; mini-bus-service to Kyrenia, Nicosia and Famagusta from our gate.

This was Pearce Hubbard’s house, out of 'Bitter lemons', by Lawrence Durrell (reckoned to be one of the finest properties on the whole island by British residents). On the 1st floor you find 3 large double bedrooms, a bathroom with tub, 'lavoir', bidet and WC. The lounge, overlooking the Old Monastery garden, boasts an open fire place, a settee with marble table and a couch, serving as 7th bed. On the ground floor, there is a big kitchen, a cloak room and the veranda behind pointed arches, providing lovely views over the old draw-well and fish pond out to the Monastery garden. There is also a Turkish fountain, a cocktail bar and garden furniture. Old House I tenants have exclusive use of the Monastery garden.

Lapta lies 9 miles to the West of Kyrenia. It expands from the coast up to the Kyrenia Mountain –range, which runs two km inland parallel to the coast. Our beautiful 'Old Monastery' is halfway up in the middle, providing breathtaking views of sea & mountains. In Antiquity there was the kingdom of Lambousa and a centre of pottery. In the middle ages it was a bishop’s see and a centre of silkworm breeding (the old mulberry trees still stand along the village-roads). Today there are 4 mosques and 4 churches, schools, shops and extensive lemon & olive groves. Thanks to a 7-headed mountain well, the region remains green throughout the year and offers magnificent spring blossom. Guided tours to discover 41 species of orchid and wild anemones are available in springtime.

If rent separately, privacy is maintained, since the Moorish terrace belongs exclusively to Old House II, whilst Old House I tenants have sole use of the Monastery garden.
